Wanted Killer vr

As a Game Designer on Wanted Killer VR I was responsible for key features and systems. Due to the small size of the team, everyone was responsible for a variety of aspects of the game and had to show a broad skillset to reliably achieve those.

Progression System

I designed and implemented a progression system that incentivises players to try different playstyles while providing a power fantasy where they can find their own unique playstyle.
This was achieved through:

  1. Character Levels that steadily increase the characters stats and allow them to equip higher tier weapons.
  2. A campaign structure that forces specific characters on first playthrough but can be repeated with any other characters to achieve higher scores and complete mission challenges.
  3. Weapon upgrades and tiers that can be purchased for maximizing power of their favorite weapons.
  4. Additional weapon loadout on players back that allows mixing weapon types for more personalized playstyles (main weapon type is locked by character).

Game Economy and Loot System

I designed and implemented a smart loot system that rewards players at a steady pace over the course of the entire campaign and a few hours beyond. I balanced rewards for completing missions, weapon purchase costs and level requirements in a way that supports both the loot system as well as the progression system and their individual goals.

Game Modes

I pitched and prototyped various game modes that highlight the strength of Wanted Killer's unique core gameplay loop and re-contextualize it in interesting and challenging ways.
Examples include:

  1. Lightning Strike: Players must survive for a given time while being not alowed to stay out of bullet time for more than 5 seconds.
  2. Rush: Players must reach a goal in a given time while being under attack. (Think Neon White but in VR)

I designed, implemented and balanced Mission Challenges that teach foundational gameplay mechanics, encourage players to try out different playstyles and provide optional challenges for high skilled players.
